In a meaningfully productive 35-year career as a visual artist in Atlanta, Comer Jennings has completed portrait commissions for some of the country's most prominent citizens, created a large body of signature still life paintings, executed myriad public art projects, served as teacher and mentor to young artists and given freely of his expertise for charitable projects.  His hands-on work with business, social and civic organizations over the years has given him unusual insight into the community as well as a strong connection to people representing diverse interests.

Jennings ' work with public and private agencies, charitable organizations and individuals has resulted in many public commissions.  Both working for fees and making charitable contributions, he has completed projects which include the design of the signature official Olympics poster, the creation of two large paintings for the Solarium, a public space at the Atlanta Botanical Garden, the commemorative sculpture design of the Donald Mackaye Memorial, and official posters for the Atlanta Dogwood Festival and the Atlanta Flower Shows.

His portrait commissions total over 750 during his career. Public commissions include: The White House, The Ceremonial Court Room of the U.S. District Courthouse, Georgia Power Company, SunTrust Bank, Equifax, Westminster School, The Atlanta Bar Association, The Coca-Cola Company, Avondale Mills among others.  A sampling of individual commissions includes:  President Jimmy Carter, Mr. & Mrs. Bert Lance, Robert Woodruff, George Woodruff, Richard Woodruff, Mrs. George Wallace, Chet Atkins, and Ambassador Philip Alston.

Jennings continues his work today in Atlanta as artist, designer and civic leader.  He has served on numerous committees and boards of directors (currently, Atlanta Botanical Garden, Portrait Society of Atlanta, Atlanta Ballet, Atlanta College of Art) and committees, and has worked hands-on for two years, delivering meals to people living with AIDS through Project Open Hand.

The Atlanta History Center has requested his papers for its archives.
